Vena Medical’s MicroAngioscope Used in First U.S. Commercial Cases

Vena Medical, the Kitchener-based developer of direct intravascular imaging systems, completed its first U.S. commercial cases with the Vena MicroAngioscope system. The device uses a small camera to give physicians a live, full-colour view from inside the vasculature, allowing real-time treatment decisions like stent choice and placement during procedures.

Neurosurgeons Peter Kan, MD, and Chris Young, MD, of the University of Texas Medical Branch led the initial cases — starting with a carotid artery stenting procedure — making UTMB the first U.S. institution to commercially adopt the system, following its FDA clearance in February 2026.
